“We ultimately have a perception versus reality problem,” Caroline Turco, a lawyer for the city, argued in court on Friday. “The president’s perception is that it’s ‘World War II out there.’ The reality is this is a beautiful city and with a sophisticated police force that can handle the situation.”

Internal reports from the week before #Trump ordered #troops into #Portland show that, by & large, the officers observed displays of civil disobedience, including protesters standing in front of vehicles on the road, playing loud music & “flipping a bird,” & an older woman using chalk to write on a wall.

Before #Trump Ordered In #Troops, Federal Officers Called #Portland Protests ‘Low Energy’

On Sept. 27, Trump described Portland, #Oregon, as a “War ravaged” city that was “under siege from attack by Antifa” mobs protesting #ICE raids.

But here is how federal officers described the scene outside the ICE building in southwest Portland on Sept 25: “low energy.” The next day the same: “low energy.”

Y'know a lot of people pop up during any of these migrations, loudly claiming to be some oppressed minority, totally not being paid by big centralized corporate social networks to scare people away from the Fediverse, and they all say basically the same thing:

1) The Fediverse is full of persecution of said minority
2) Said minority has been attacked here and driven away, but protected and defended on centralized corporate networks (even when they're not)
3) Frame everything as if the minority is an identity you must embrace that makes everyone else an unwelcome outsider.
4) Heavy implications that the people programming the Fediverse are doing this on purpose
5) The only solution is totalitarian control to make sure nobody's allowed to be mean, which conveniently can only be done by the centralized corporate networks

Not saying they're full of shit, and fearmongering to persecute the minority they claim to defend, but watch out for this sort of thing. Someone saying they're oppressed does not mean they are oppressed. (Quite the opposite really. Oppressed people tend to be bullied into silence.)

Sen #JoshHawley is going off about “Biden tapping Republicans’ phones”

To be clear,

THIS DID NOT HAPPEN.

IT IS TOTAL BULLSHIT.

The FBI obtained phone data from several Republican senators in 2023, as part of the special counsel's investigation into efforts to overturn the 2020 election. The data included CALL LOGS & TIMESTAMPS, NOT the CONTENT of the conversations.

#JBPritzker also said he wanted to know
more about an episode in #Chicago Saturday when a federal agent shot & wounded a motorist who, acc/to federal ofcls, had rammed & boxed-in a law enforcement vehicle.

“It’s really hard to know exactly what the facts are, & they won’t let us access the facts,” he said. “They are just putting out their #propaganda. And then we’ve got to later determine what actually happened.”

The WH confirmed Saturday it has “authorized” the deployment of #NationalGuard units to #Illinois over opposition from Gov #JBPritzker

Brace for the #propaganda:

“Amidst ongoing violent riots & lawlessness, that local leaders like Pritzker have refused to step in to quell, President Trump has authorized 300 national guardsmen to protect federal officers & assets,” White House spox Abigail Jackson said in a statement issued late Saturday afternoon.
