Nachdem wir mit Mastodon einen wichtigen Meilenstein für freie und offene Netze erreicht haben wollen wir in diesem Jahr auch eine europäische Alternative für Instagram aufbauen. Das Fediverse bietet dafür die Software Pixelfed, mit unserer Instanz instapix.org können sich ab nächster Woche alle besser vernetzen denen Bildsprache lieber ist. Das tolle ist - im Fediverse bleiben wir über unterschiedliche Tools in Kontakt.

A belated #introduction.

Hello Fediverse,
We are the #FediverseFoundation. As a non-profit association we're hosting and moderating instances, go to different events and lobby for the Fediverse since 2023.
From now on you'll be able to follow this account for updates, including downtimes, new instances and tools, small and large developments of our association and of course regular calls for donations.

We want to thank everybody who donated to us this year and all users on our instances that enrich the Fediverse with their great content, no matter if you can afford donating towards the operation.

After our latest call for donations you raised the ante a lot and we are now at around 7000€ annual income from donations. We also got around 2500€ income from a friendly work group that co-uses our server, which means about 80% of our yearly expenses are covered. Thanks!

Here is the detailed expense allocation for 2024:
* server (power, traffic, location, ddos protection): 11357,34€
* bank account management: 176.03€
* domains: 84€
* total: 11617,37€

Look forward to a little end-of-year review around the turn of the year.

Marked in green you can see the hardware that is powered with electricity, which we pay from your donations. Marked red is the hardware that guzzles electricity we are paying out of our pockets.
So quite exactly half of our yearly expenses are financed through your donations.

If we received that amount every month, our yearly expenses were covered.

Fediverse Foundation Spendenaufruf

Wir hosten aktuell unter anderem acht Fediverse Instanzen für euch, die wir frei und offen zur Verfügung stellen. Allerdings kostet der Betrieb dieser Instanzen natürlich auch viel Zeit und - obwohl wir selbst sehr viel ehrenamtliche Arbeit hineinstecken - auch Geld. Mehr Geld, als wir auf die Dauer selbst aufbringen können.

Dieses Jahr erwarten wir Gesamtkosten von ca. 15,000€. Einige nette Menschen spenden schon und wir sind sehr dankbar dafür, aber wir bringen aktuell noch einen signifikanten Anteil selbst auf.
