It comes from a loose coalition of #archivists & #librarians, who are standing athwart #history & yelling “Save!” They belong to organizations such as the #InternetArchive, which co-created a project called the End of Term Web Archive to back up the federal web in 2008; the Environmental Data & Governance Initiative, or #edgi; & #libraries at major #universities such as #MIT & the University of #Michigan.

Listened to a presentation what the #internetarchive is up to these days, such as archiving all the deleted US government pages on climate, inclusion, tolerance etc etc and making it available easily in context to people.

IMHO it’s just a matter of time until it will be in the cross hairs of the current US administration.

It deserves your support.

I just archived this web page on the #InternetArchive. I plan on doing that with every US government page that I come across with useful information!

"The benefits promised by #OPV #SolarCells include:

Low-cost manufacturing: Soluble organic molecules enable roll-to-roll processing techniques and allow for low-cost manufacturing.
Abundant materials: The wide abundance of building-block materials may reduce supply and price constraints.
Flexible substrates: The ability to be applied to flexible substrates permits a wide variety of uses."

This is where the @internetarchive and their Wayback Machine really shows its value. Presumably they've been taking snapshots of all government websites for years, so we can compare versions from BOS (Before Orange Stalin) with those from DOS (During Orange Stalin).

Federal data is disappearing. On Thursday (TODAY), meet the teams working to rescue it and learn how you can help.

Join the Internet Archive and the Library Innovation Lab on Feb. 13, 3pm Eastern for a special event exploring the terabytes of data they have already saved and how to access it.

So... one thing that I think is going to happen in the next few years is that the #Trump Administration will go after the #InternetArchive . Since they are obviously highly interested in rewriting history to suit their agenda, the Wayback Machine is going to be seen as an obvious threat.

And taking them down is probably not going to be hard. Not only is the Internet Archive an US-based organization, but they are already in legal jeopardy due to their "National Emergency Library" and their hosting of a lot of copyrighted material which is easily legally available.

So... _do_ we have a backup plan for preserving the digital history of the Internet - one hosted in a jurisdiction that is safer (for now)? Or are we are just going to have to accept that this will be gone forever?
