To be honest I have only managed to watch three TV shows produced the last 15 years for more than three quarters of a season:
The Middle
Wednesday
Fallout
Don't say THAT Dick Van Dyke! The legendary entertainer (99) joked during a recent event that it would be funny if he didn't make it to his hundredth birthday, which is on Dec. 13. At the Vandy High Tea event, which raises money for The Van Dyke Endowment of the Arts, Van Dyke led a "Happy Birthday" singalong for a six-year-old fan, and performed "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang," "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” and the theme from "The Dick Van Dyke Show." Across three seasons between 2014 and 2017, "The Leftovers" told stories of deep grief, love, faith, connection and humanity, with one of television's great casts and a near-perfect final scene. @Gizmodo's Cheryl Eddy pays tribute to the under-appreciated HBO masterpiece. Tell us your favorite overlooked TV show in the comments.
Abbey Road has announced the winners of its music photography awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award, given to David Bailey. Here are some of the winning shots, which include a picture by Kirby Gladstein of Lana Del Rey headlining Coachella, and Jordan Curtis Hughes' image of The 1975's Matty Healy playing music on a Casio keyboard, surrounded by guitars and takeout containers. Here's more from @RollingStone.
At Sean "Diddy" Combs' sentencing hearing today, prosecutors referenced his repeated history of violence against women and behavior in federal custody and asked the judge to sentence him to 11 years in prison. Combs and several of his children addressed the court, asking the judge not to deny them the care of their surviving parent — the defense team argued he should face no more than 14 months behind bars. He was later sentenced to 50 months in prison and a $500,000 fine. Judge Subramanian told Combs he was unconvinced that he was the changed man his defense team portrayed. Here's more from @THR.
Today's biggest news in music is the release of Taylor Swift's twelfth studio album, "Death of a Showgirl." Here's what @Billboard had to say about it. "The limit does not exist to how high Swift can keep soaring — anytime her downfall (or even a notable downturn) has been predicted, she climbs higher and winks at her naysayers," writes Jason Lipshutz. "By pivoting back to pop anthems with humor, empathy, a little fury and a lot of wisdom, Swift ensures that ascent will continue."
Patricia Routledge, best known for playing snobbish social-climber Hyacinth Bucket in beloved British sitcom “Keeping Up Appearances,” has died at 96.
@Variety reports: "Despite only running for five seasons, it would have a lasting legacy, and for a time was the most successful British show internationally."
Lots of celebrities are speaking up for free speech — but Dave Chappelle chose to do so in an unusual location: the Riyadh Comedy Festival in Saudi Arabia. Here's more from @THR.
The Onion has made a movie, "Jeffrey Epstein: Bad Pedophile." @vanityfair spoke to CEO Ben Collins about how it got made, why the shooting of Charlie Kirk nearly stopped its release, and what you can expect from the 20-minute satirical documentary. "So much of this is social commentary, and so much of it’s just stupid dick jokes, basically."
Glad to see this.

“One Battle After Another” is being hailed as “a tense, propulsive, and masterfully crafted film with knock-out performances and a nuanced exploration of the new-paranoid America.” Paul Thomas Anderson’s “OBAA” is an action thriller is inspired by Thomas Pinchon’s 1990 novel “Vineland," which focused on the splintering of the radical movements from the two decades prior. Is the film worth seeing? This review from @pitchfork certainly says so:
6 Ways to Pass the Time in the Middle Ages (Medieval Entertainment)
"The Middle Ages were far from all doom and gloom. People had plenty of free time and invented various entertainments to pass the time enjoyably."
Ahead of the Season 3 premiere on October 16, Netflix has announced Bradley Whitford and Allison Janney have been upped to series regulars for Season 4 of "The Diplomat", starring Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell.
