The total amount of #FBI #resources devoted to immigration is probably higher than even the 25% figure. The FBI reassignment data Warner obtained reflects the number of agents working on immigration at least 50% of their time. It does not account for scores of other agents who have been detailed to #immigration enforcement a lesser portion of their time.

The #Trump admin has said that more of the #FBI’s time is going to #immigration enforcement, but the figure of almost 25% is the first precise record of how big the shift has been. Warner requested the data as the top #Democrat on the #Senate #Intelligence Cmte.

Agents have been pulled from duties related to #cybercrimes, #DrugTrafficking, #terrorism, #counterintelligence & more, the stats show. Agents assigned to immigration enforcement are working with #ICE to locate & arrest people.

The large number of reassignments reflect a vast reshaping of the nation’s premier #LawEnforcement agency, which has focused on #NationalSecurity threats since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The intense focus on #immigration has raised alarm among current & former #FBI agents who say morale is low across the bureau as agents have less time to dedicate to the often complex cases they were hired to work on.

It was the first time they had met, & Comey’s message — that there was a document circulating in Washington full of salacious claims related to #Trump & #Russia — left Trump suspecting that the #FBI director was implicitly threatening him [because that’s how Trump operates]. #Comey later said he believed he had no choice but to share the information, despite the possibility that Trump would take it as a demonstration of leverage over him.

#JamesComey, then the #FBI director, arrived at Trump Tower 2 weeks before Trump would be inaugurated in 2017. On the agenda was a briefing for the incoming president by Comey & the intelligence community chiefs on their finding that #Russia had interfered in the 2016 election to hurt #HillaryClinton.

But Comey also planned to give Trump some even more awkward news.

Trump's call to imprison 2 prominent opponents of his #immigration crackdown comes as another high-profile political rival, fmr #FBI Director #JamesComey, was due to appear in court to face criminal charges that have been widely criticized as flimsy.

#Trump has frequently called for jailing his opponents since he entered politics in 2015, but Comey is the first to face prosecution.

The #FBI made an audio recording of the Sept 2024 meeting with #TomHoman, as part of an investigation which #Trump #DOJ & #FBI officials closed earlier this year. A White House propagandist denied Homan took the money, & Homan has denied criminal wrongdoing.

“Clearly you’re a failed lawyer,” #PamBondi yelled over #AdamSchiff as he was entering documents into the official hearing record.

Sen #AdamSchiff, a long perceived enemy of #Trump & who is being investigated by the #PamBondi #DOJ at Trump’s direction, decried what he called the “brazenly political” decision-making at DOJ.

Refusing to answer whether Trump’s border czar, #TomHoman, accepted $50,000 in cash on tape as part of an undercover #FBI #bribery investigation, Bondi crossed her arms & again deflecting with prepared insults demanded Schiff “apologize to Donald Trump” for his role in Trump’s first impeachment.

#PamBondi expressed little interest in the claims of Commerce Secy #HowardLutnick that convicted #SexOffender #JeffreyEpstein was “the greatest blackmailer ever.” Bondi has been under fire since she decided to stop the release of the #FBI #EpsteinFiles & declared that no evidence had been found of him blackmailing others. Pressed by Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) she said no official had asked to talk to Lutnick, a fmr neighbor of Epstein’s.

Not sure how much more of this I can watch. It’s kind of pointless.

Bondi, like the #FBI director #KashPatel, is attempting to turn Democrats’ questioning on the committee into high-volume political theater. The attorney general has shouted herself hoarse after only a few minutes of questioning. She has refused to answer any questions about her decision-making on the #Epstein investigation and other matters.

Since she took the helm in February, the #DOJ has been in almost constant turmoil. #PamBondi & her top lieutenants have fired prosecutors who worked #Jan6 #insurrection cases or investigated #Trump & pushed out senior officials at the #FBI.

The #PublicIntegrity Section, which prosecutes public #corruption, has been almost entirely emptied out, while >70% of the attorneys in the #CivilRights Division have departed as well.

#Chicago #Police & paramedics showed up a few minutes later, he said. As paramedics placed tourniquets on Martinez’s leg & arm, a bullet fell out of her arm & onto the shop’s floor, the manager said. She left in an ambulance. #FBI investigators then arrived & placed red tape around the area where Martinez had sat & around her car, the manager said.

Gov #JBPritzker is directing the state’s Dept of Child & Family Services & the Dept of Human Services to evaluate how #children were treated during an aggressive #immigration raid on a South Shore apartment building this week….

#DHS said federal agents with #BorderPatrol, the #FBI, & the #ATF arrested at least 37 people in the raid, making it one of the largest operations executed since the start of “Operation Midway Blitz” on Sept 8.

#Trump fired #Comey in 2017, early in his first term in office. He has since regularly assailed Comey's handling of the #FBI investigation that detailed contacts between #Russia & Trump's 2016 campaign.

Trump has threatened to imprison his political rivals since he first ran for president in 2015, but the move against Comey marks the first time his administration has succeeded in securing a grand jury indictment against one of them.

Reuters could not immediately determine how or when senior #FBI officials wanted to stage bringing #JamesComey into the #FBI Washington field office. Only a summons to appear in court was issued in the case, & NOT an arrest warrant. However, defendants will often report to an FBI field office for booking after a court summons is issued.

#Comey, who has denied wrongdoing, is due to appear in court in Alexandria, Virginia, just outside Washington, Thurs.
